Joe Beirne Scholarships: 

The Foundation’s Board of Directors has approved the awarding of sixteen (16) partial college scholarships of $4,000 each for two years. Eligible for the scholarships are CWA members, their spouses, children, and grandchildren, including the dependents of retired, laid-off, or deceased members. Applications will be available solely online for submission on the Foundation’s website at https://cwa-union.org/beirne-application.

IUE-CWA Scholarships: 

Scholarships for the 2023–2024 school year have been awarded and winners have been notified.

For all of the IUE-CWA scholarships, the applicant must be accepted for admission or already enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university, nursing or technical school offering college credit courses. All study must be completed at the undergraduate level. Checks will be sent directly to the accredited school.CHECK BACK HERE TO SEE WHEN A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS ANNOUNCED: https://iue-cwa.org/scholarships. Five $4,000 scholarships. Children and grandchildren of all IUE-CWA members and IUE-CWA employees (including retired or deceased IUE-CWA members or employees) may apply. 

Union Plus Scholarship Program

The Union Plus Scholarship awards are presented annually to union members or members of their families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. In 2022, 189 union members and union family members were awarded $200,000 in Union Plus Scholarships, ranging from $500 to $4,000.2024 Applications  available now. MASSACHUSETTS AFL-CIO ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP:

The Annual AFL-CIO Scholarship and Labor Education Program is in its 65th year. Through the program, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and affiliated unions are proud to award financial resources to high school students pursuing trade union programs or college/university study. ­The Massachusetts AFL-CIO administers half a million dollars of scholarship awards on behalf of unions and labor councils throughout the state. Individual awards range from $500 to $16,000. You can view a list of available awards and their criteria here.

Key Dates for 2023-2024

  • December 22, 2023: Last day to register. All applications must be received by 5pm to be eligible to take the scholarship exam.
  • February 5, 2024-February 9, 2024: Scholarship exam is administered at high schools across Massachusetts. Schools will administer the exam online within the timeframe provided. Students must check with their exam proctor for testing time and location.
